Doxology

Also known as Doxologia

A usually trinitarian ascription of praise, such as the Gloria Patri (lesser doxology) or the Gloria in excelsis (greater doxology).

Definition

An ascription of praise (Greek, doxologia, lit. 'words of glory'), usually trinitarian in form, and often beginning with, or including, the word 'glory'. The lesser doxology — 'Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit...' The greater doxology — the hymn Gloria in excelsis.
