Definition
Western Goths, a Germanic tribe that settled in Roman western Europe during the 4th and 5th centuries. While resident in the Balkans in the 4th century, the Visigoths had been converted to Arianism. King Recared accepted Roman Catholicism for himself and his court in 589.
