Definition

(1202–1204) A crusade launched by Innocent III that was the most disgraceful of the era. Influenced by the Venetians, the Crusade turned against its fellow Christians of the Byzantine Empire and resulted in the barbaric sack of Constantinople in 1204 and the establishment of Baldwin of Flanders as the first Latin emperor there.
