Definition
An early Christian priest, theologian, and historian (c. 342–420) best known for translating the Bible into Latin (the Vulgate). He prioritized the Hebrew text for his Old Testament translation over the Septuagint. Jerome was also a significant advocate for Christian asceticism, particularly among affluent Roman women.
