The Eastern, Greek, or Orthodox section of the Christian church that understands itself as the continuation of the original apostolic community based on the assumption of the apostolic preaching implied the formation of the local sacramental communities, each being the "body of Christ", with the head, or bishop, fulfilling the ministry of Christ himself.
