Definition
An abbey founded in 910 AD in Cluny, Saône-et-Loire, France. This monastery was fortunate in the succession of abbots. During the administrations of Berno (d. 927), Odo (927–942), Majolus (948–994), Odilo (994–1048) and Hugh (1049–1109) enforcement of the Benedictine Rule made it a model of Benedictine observance.
