Definition

A group of politically influential and socially concerned Anglican evangelicals of the early 19th century. The group concerned themselves with the abolition of slavery, the establishment of Sierra Leone for freed slaves, missionary efforts, the foundation of the British and Foreign Bible Society, poor relief, and Sunday schools.
