A fragrant, blessed oil used in sacramental rituals such as baptism, confirmation, and ordination, as well as in dedication ceremonies.

Definition

From the Greek chrio, the word designates a fragrant, blessed oil which is used in the sacramental rituals of baptism, confirmation and ordination. Chrism is also used in other solemn ceremonies of dedication (of altars, churches, etc.).
