Definition

Statesman and philosopher, sometimes called the 'last of the Romans.' His translations and commentaries were important in transmitting ancient culture and philosophy to the Middle Ages. Among Boethius' contributions are the classical definitions of 'eternity' ('the perfect possession all at once of endless life') and 'person' ('the individual subsistence of a rational nature').
